Set Up Alerts and Monitor Your Bank Accounts {Video}

If you don’t check your bank and credit card account activity regularly, you might miss erroneous or downright fraudulent charges on your account.

A few years ago, I’d log in to my accounts every day just to say “Hi” to my money. You know, and see what it was up to. Any suspicious charges were identified and investigated immediately. But over time, I’ve gotten a little lazy.

Since I only check my account activity once a week or so, I partly rely on Mint.com to notify me of erroneous or suspicious charges on my account. The service has worked out really well so far. The first email Mint.com sent me was for a random $5 fee that Washington Mutual hit me with. As soon as I received the notice, I called WaMu and demanded my money back.

Of course, you don’t have to use Mint.com to take advantage of account alerts. Many banks will allow you to set up notifications with them directly.
